Exotic beauty with a long breath
With her luxurious feeling the Anthurium has another trump: she has the longest shelf life of all the cut flowers. The Anthurium lasts very long, both in the vase and in an arrangement.
Colours and shape
Did you know that the flower of the Anthurium is the spadix (this is the spike shaped part) and not the brightly coloured spathe where the spadix protrudes from? The colours of the spathes range from shiny white, red, pink, purple, orange to green and even in multiple colours per leaf. They may also differ in shapes and sizes.
Symbolism
The Anthurium is a symbol of exotic beauty, given its appearance and origin. The name anthurium is derived from the Greek words ‘anthos’ and ‘oura’ meaning ‘bloom’ and ‘tail’. Fittingly so. The Anthurium is also known as the flamingo flower, which suits its exotic character.
Origin
The Anthurium originates in Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. In 1876 the French botanist Eduard André discovered the flower in Colombia and Ecuador.
Care
The Anthurium is a tropical flower, so it makes sense that it likes to be in warm place with high humidity. Make the plant even more comfortable by regularly spraying water on it.
